Know what's on your credit report! Order a free credit report through Annual Credit Report.com. Make sure all information is accurate on your report. Also get your LexisNexis report.

Protect your credit! Experian Has a awesome credit monitoring program. Provides your credit/Fico score every 30 days, while keeping your credit protected.

Open a personal bank account. Most credit unions do not have all the fees big banks have and are easier to maintain for new account holders. Credit unions have little to no monthly maintenance fees.

Apply for unsecured credit card through your credit union/bank. A unsecured credit card is established with your money. This will help you begin to build your credit. Make sure you know your CLOSING STATEMENT DATE AND BILLING DATE. You should always keep your utilize low around/on your statement date between 1-3%. After your reporting date it's ok to use your card again. Follow these steps each month. With low credit card utilization most card issuers raise your limit automatically and your score will increase and reflect good payment and usage history.
If you have a family member with excellent credit and low credit usage, that family member to add you on their credit card as an authorize user. This will allow you to piggyback off their credit score.

Tip 6

Apply for self lender card to add a trade-line/line of credit to your account. Self is a credit and saving building app. With Self you will establish payment history and build credit. You select the payment amount to be withdrawn from your account for 12 months. Once you have made all your payments Self will give you the option to receive 12 months of payments with interest in a from of a check or convert the money invested into Self into a credit card. YES you get all that you paid for 12 months back plus interest plus 12 months of positive reporting to the credit bureau. Kickoff is also a good Payment history app. Kickoff will provide you with 12 virtual dollars. each month you login and pay 1 virtual dollar. Kickoff will report this information to the credit companies.

Tip 7

When applying for Credit cards/ cars always go to the creditor website and utilize the pre approval tool. This will not affect your score. When car shopping is is best to get your pre-approval check from your bank/credit union.
